Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1771-ODZ is an earlier PLC 5 digital AC output module, functionally equivalent to the 1771-OD. It controls AC-powered devices like solenoids and transformers using isolated circuitry, responding directly to PLC data table bits. This module features 8 image bits, supports , 1, and 2-slot addressing, and includes surge suppression. It can replace 1771-OZ and 1771-OA modules (with a resistor) and 1771-IA modules (with interlocks). The Series A module offers 8 isolated 120V AC outputs (4 sets of 2), operating between 92-138V AC with a 350mA backplane current load. Each output handles up to 2A continuously, with a module maximum of 6A. Signal delays are typically 1ms (Off to On) and 8.3ms (On to Off). It dissipates a maximum of 11.4W (38.9 BTU/hr). A 1771-WD wiring arm simplifies module replacement. Installation requires a 1771 I/O chassis with proper keying. The front panel displays output status (red LEDs) and blown fuse conditions (orange LEDs), and incorporates optical coupling and filtering for noise reduction.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1771-ODZ output module commonly experiences issues such as blown output fuses due to overcurrent conditions or short circuits in field wiring. Technicians frequently address failed output transistors, often caused by inductive load kickback or exceeding voltage/current ratings. Corrosion on the edge connector pins leads to communication failures and requires cleaning or replacement. Backplane issues, including corrupted data or power fluctuations, impact module operation. Firmware corruption necessitates reprogramming or module replacement to restore functionality.

Technical specifications

  • The Allen-Bradley 1771-ODZ is an early PLC 5 digital AC output module, similar to the 1771-OD, used to control AC devices. It features 8 isolated 120V AC outputs, supports different addressing schemes, and includes surge suppression. It can replace other modules with minor modifications. The module has specific voltage, current, and power dissipation characteristics, and includes features like a wiring arm for easy replacement and LED indicators for output and fuse status. It requires a compatible I/O chassis and incorporates noise reduction techniques.

Our Repair Process for the

1771-ODZ

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1771-ODZ output module begins with a thorough inspection for blown output fuses, which are replaced after identifying and correcting the overcurrent condition or short circuit. Failed output transistors are replaced, and measures are implemented to mitigate inductive load kickback and ensure adherence to voltage/current ratings. Edge connector pins are meticulously cleaned or replaced to eliminate corrosion-related communication failures. Backplane issues, including data corruption or power fluctuations, are addressed through diagnostics and repair of the backplane. Firmware corruption necessitates reprogramming the module or complete module replacement to restore proper functionality.
