Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1771-OMD PLC 5 Digital Output Module is a fused, 16-output module designed for a single slot in a 1771 I/O chassis. Each output handles 184-250V AC (47-63Hz) at 2A, with a total module current exceeding 8A. It withstands a 25A surge per output and for the entire module (both for 100ms, repeating every 1 second). A minimum 10mA load at 220V AC (60Hz) is needed to maintain an ON state, with a maximum 1.5V voltage drop at 2A. OFF state leakage is 4mA per output at 220V AC. Output signal delay is 10ms (ON) and 8.3-9.1ms (OFF) at 60Hz. Power dissipation ranges from 3.7 to 17.3 Watts, with a maximum thermal dissipation of 59 BTU/hr. It draws 700mA at 5V DC (+5%) from the backplane and provides circuit voltage isolation meeting UL and CSA standards. It requires a standard or fused wiring arm with 7-9 inch-pounds screw torque, and each output is fused with a 10A 250V rectifier fuse (1/4 x 1-1/4 inch). Operating temperature is 0-60C (32-140F) at 5-95% humidity (non-condensing), with a storage temperature range of -40-85C (-40-185F).

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1771-OMD output module commonly experiences issues such as blown output fuses due to overcurrent conditions or short circuits in connected field devices. Troubleshooting includes verifying proper field wiring, checking for voltage drops exceeding specified limits, and replacing faulty triacs or optocouplers within the module. Corrosion on the backplane connector pins can cause intermittent signal loss, requiring cleaning or backplane replacement. Module failure also stems from component degradation due to thermal stress or electrostatic discharge, necessitating module repair or replacement.

Technical specifications

  • The Allen-Bradley 1771-OMD is a 16-output, fused digital output module for PLC 5 systems. It handles 184-250V AC outputs at 2A each, with specific surge, load, leakage, and delay characteristics. It requires 5V DC backplane power, dissipates heat, and meets UL/CSA isolation standards. It has specific wiring and fuse requirements, and operates within a defined temperature and humidity range.

Our Repair Process for the

1771-OMD

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1771-OMD output module begins with a thorough inspection of field wiring to confirm correct connections and identify any short circuits or overcurrent conditions. Voltage drops are measured to ensure they remain within specified limits. Suspect modules undergo component-level testing, including triacs and optocouplers, with faulty components replaced. Backplane connector pins are inspected for corrosion; cleaning or backplane replacement occurs as needed. Modules exhibiting component degradation due to thermal stress or electrostatic discharge are either repaired or replaced to ensure optimal performance.
