Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1788-CNF, a ControlNet network daughter card for FlexLogix and DriveLogix systems, connects to the ControlNet network via A and B optical cable connectors, ideally using Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley approved cables (1786-FS10, 1786-FS20, etc.) based on length. This single-channel optical interface features A and B status indicators and can also be accessed for programming via a 1786-CP cable plugged into the NAP connector. To prevent electrical arcing, install or remove the 1788-CNF only when the host module is unpowered. A steady red indicator signifies a major fault. Operating within a 0-60C range, the module requires a 5V DC supply and consumes 2.2 Watts.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1788-CNF communication interface module commonly experiences issues related to corrupted firmware, resulting in communication failures on the ControlNet network. Resolve this by reflashing the firmware using ControlFlash software and verifying proper network configuration parameters, including node address and baud rate. Diagnose physical layer problems such as damaged connectors or cabling, which impede network communication. Address configuration errors within RSLogix 5000 that prevent the PLC from properly communicating with the 1788-CNF module. Finally, ensure the power supply provides adequate voltage and current to the module, as insufficient power causes intermittent operational faults.

It operates between 0-60C, requires 5V DC, and consumes 2.2 Watts.

Our Repair Process for the

1788-CNF

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1788-CNF communication interface module begins with reflashing the firmware using ControlFlash software, followed by verification of correct network configuration parameters, specifically node address and baud rate. Next, we diagnose and rectify any physical layer problems, including inspection and repair of damaged connectors or cabling. Configuration errors within RSLogix 5000, which hinder PLC communication with the 1788-CNF module, are then addressed. Finally, we confirm the power supply delivers sufficient voltage and current to the module to prevent operational faults.
