Product Description
The Allen-Bradley 150-A240NBD is a SMC Plus Smart Motor Controller designed for 3-phase squirrel cage motors. It offers selectable kick-start, current limit start, and full voltage start modes to protect motors during startup and shutdown by minimizing current surges and mechanical stress. This standard model drive can be enhanced with optional features like Soft Stop, SMB Smart Motor Braking, Pump Control, Accu-Stop, Preset Slow Speed, and Slow Speed with Braking.
It operates on a 200-460VAC, 3-Phase, 50/60 Hz supply voltage, with a 100-240VAC, 1-phase, 50/60 Hz control module voltage. The controller delivers an output current of 240 Amperes and an output power of 150 HP. It includes one normally open (N.O.) and one normally closed (N.C.) contact for monitoring operational status.
The 150-A240NBD features adjustable kick start times (0.4-2.0 seconds) and current limit starting (50-500% of full load current). It provides robust noise and RF immunity with surge transient peak protection (3000V), showering arc protection (1500V), DV/DT protection via an RC snubber network, and transient protection using metal oxide varistors (220-300 Joules).
Additional features include an energy saver for lightly loaded motors and phase rebalance to adjust output voltage for balanced 3-phase currents (phase rebalance overrides energy saver when both are enabled). It also offers motor overload capabilities with thermal memory, stall protection (adjustable from 0-10 seconds), and jam detection for enhanced system and motor protection.
Is Your Device Showing These Signs?
The Allen Bradley 150-A240NBD commonly experiences issues such as failed solid-state overload relays, resulting in motor protection faults and nuisance tripping. Technicians frequently address problems with the integral electronic trip unit, including inaccurate current sensing and communication errors on the DeviceNet network. Contactor coil failures and resultant inability to energize the motor starter are also prevalent. Replacement of worn or damaged power poles and auxiliary contacts is a standard repair to ensure proper electrical connection and operational integrity. Troubleshooting often involves verifying proper voltage and current levels, inspecting wiring connections, and confirming correct parameter settings within the overload relay module.
