Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1746-A4 is a 4-slot expansion chassis for SLC 500 series modules, designed for panel mounting. It requires a separate power supply, which is screw-mounted to the left end panel. The right and center panels are secured with a latch. The chassis is mounted to the enclosure using four screws through its mounting tabs, potentially requiring paint removal for electrical grounding. It can be used as a standalone unit (connector plug on the left) or interconnected with up to two other chassis for a maximum of 30 I/O slots. Side-by-side connections use the 1746-C7 cable (6 inches), while vertical stacking uses the 1746-C9 (36 inches) or 1746-C16 (50 inches) cables. The 1746-A4 has a backplane current of 5.1V DC at 10A and 24V DC at 2.88A, weighs 0.75 kg (1.7 lbs), and measures 17.7 x 17.1 x 14.5 cm (7.1 x 6.8 x 5.8 inches). It operates between 0-60C (32-140F) with 5-95% non-condensing relative humidity.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1746-A4 chassis commonly experiences issues such as backplane corrosion leading to communication failures between modules. Power supply degradation results in intermittent operation and system crashes. Bent or damaged connector pins cause module recognition problems and I/O errors. Memory corruption within installed modules manifests as program faults and data loss. Environmental factors such as excessive heat or humidity accelerate component aging, leading to unpredictable system behavior and reduced operational lifespan.

Technical specifications

Our Repair Process for the

1746-A4

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1746-A4 chassis begins with a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation to pinpoint the root cause of the malfunction, specifically addressing common issues such as backplane corrosion, power supply degradation, connector pin damage, and memory corruption. The backplane undergoes a thorough inspection and cleaning to eliminate corrosion; damaged connector pins are meticulously straightened or replaced to ensure proper module connectivity. The power supply is tested under load and rebuilt with new components as needed to guarantee stable voltage output. Each installed module is tested for memory integrity and reprogrammed or replaced to eliminate program faults and data loss. The chassis is then subjected to rigorous environmental testing to verify proper operation under various conditions, ensuring extended operational lifespan and reliable performance.
