Product Description
The Allen-Bradley 1746-BAS is a single-slot Basic Language Module for SLC 500 systems, enabling data collection, report generation, and communication with HMIs, printers, modems, and other devices. It features two configurable serial ports (PRT1 and PRT2) supporting RS-232/423, RS-422, and RS-485 communication at speeds up to 19200 Baud, and a DH485 port (requiring a 1747-AIC adapter). Using PRT2 for DF1 or modem communication disables the DH485 port. The module has 24KB of battery-backed RAM, consumes minimal power, and supports a standard data transfer rate of 8 input/output words for SLC 5/01 processors and higher. It offers a user-friendly programming environment with debugging tools, flexible data storage, a built-in clock/calendar, an advanced text editor, and LED indicators for diagnostics. The 1746-BAS-T is a faster version with different memory options. It operates within a temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and meets NEMA noise immunity standards, with a maximum communication distance of 1230 meters.
Is Your Device Showing These Signs?
The Allen Bradley 1746-BAS module commonly experiences issues related to program memory corruption, resulting in PLC faults and system downtime. Communication failures over the DH-485 network are traced to incorrect baud rate settings or faulty network cables. BASIC program errors, such as syntax errors or improper data type declarations, prevent proper module operation. Resolving these issues requires careful program verification, network diagnostics, and adherence to Allen Bradley's programming guidelines for the 1746-BAS module. Firmware upgrades address known bugs and improve overall system stability.

Our Repair Process for the
1746-BAS
Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1746-BAS module begins with a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation to pinpoint the root cause of the failure, focusing on program memory integrity, DH-485 network communication, and BASIC program errors. Program memory is verified, and any corruption is corrected through reprogramming using a verified backup or a clean installation adhering to Allen Bradley's programming guidelines. DH-485 network connectivity is assessed by confirming correct baud rate settings and testing network cables for continuity and signal integrity; faulty cables are replaced immediately. BASIC programs are scrutinized for syntax errors, improper data type declarations, and logical flaws, with corrections implemented to ensure proper module operation. Firmware is upgraded to the latest revision to address known bugs and enhance system stability, followed by rigorous testing to guarantee complete functionality and prevent recurrence of the identified issues.
