Product Description
The Allen-Bradley 1746-NT8 is an 8-channel SLC 500 thermocouple/mV analog input module that converts analog signals to digital values for SLC 500 processors. It features a 120mA/5V DC and 70mA/24V DC backplane rating (2.28W total), Delta-Sigma conversion, selectable digital filtering, high noise rejection, automatic calibration, and input overvoltage protection. It uses a 1746-RT34 removable terminal block with two +/-1.72C accuracy cold-junction compensation sensors. The module supports selectable input types with >10 M Ohm impedance (input devices <100 Ohms recommended), open-circuit detection, and a 400ms response time. It operates from 0-60C (5-95% humidity, non-condensing) and is UL/CUL approved. Status is indicated by 9 green LEDs. Compatible with SLC 5/01, 5/02, 5/03, 5/04, and 5/05 processors in fixed (1746-A2 chassis) or modular configurations (any slot except 0), it uses Sigma-Delta modulation to convert signals and store data in a CPU-accessible data table. Data formats include engineering units, scaled for PID, and proportional counts. It detects open circuits, under-range, over-range, and channel errors, providing status bits for monitoring systems like HMIs and SCADA.
Is Your Device Showing These Signs?
The Allen Bradley 1746-NT8 I/O module commonly experiences issues such as communication failures stemming from corrupted backplane connectivity or faulty network configuration. Resolve these by verifying the DH+ network settings, checking the integrity of the ribbon cable connecting the module to the chassis, and confirming proper termination resistance. Address module faults indicated by diagnostic LEDs through firmware upgrades or replacement of the unit. Power supply fluctuations and grounding problems can also cause intermittent operation; ensure stable voltage and proper grounding to mitigate these issues.
