Product Description
The Allen-Bradley 1746-P2 is an SLC 500 modular power supply that accepts 85-132 or 170-265V AC input at 47-63 Hz, providing 5A at 5V and 0.96A at 24V internally. It features a 15A maximum user-supplied overcurrent protection, 20A inrush current, and a 180 VA typical line power requirement, with 1800V AC RMS isolation for 1 second. The user-power output is 200 mA at 18-30V DC. It accepts up to two AWG wires per terminal and includes fuse protection against short-circuit fires. This open-type power supply, measuring 5.5 x 2.9 x 5.7 inches and weighing 2.5 lbs, operates between 0-60C and requires a 1746 chassis. A jumper sets the input voltage. During undervoltage, the SLC 500 continues operation briefly, shutting down if the voltage remains low beyond the CPU hold-up time (20ms full load, 3000ms no load) and automatically resuming when voltage returns to normal. Series A/B models shut down and fault the CPU on overcurrent, requiring program reload; Series C models only shut down the 24V DC user power, requiring overcurrent correction. Designed for the SLC 500, it installs in the leftmost chassis slot, which is not included in the slot count. The front panel, accessible when open, has five terminals for AC/DC connections (including ground), jumper pins for voltage selection (100/120 VAC or 200/240 VAC), and an internal fuse (1746-F2 replacement). Avoid electrical arcs during wiring by ensuring power is off, and consider an isolation transformer to protect against voltage surges from inductive loads.
Is Your Device Showing These Signs?
The Allen Bradley 1746-P2 power supply commonly experiences issues such as failure to power on due to capacitor degradation, resulting in voltage instability and PLC malfunction. Troubleshooting often reveals blown fuses or shorted diodes within the power supply module. Repair procedures include replacing electrolytic capacitors, rectifying diode failures, and addressing thermal stress on internal components to restore stable DC voltage output for proper PLC operation. Overcurrent events and excessive heat contribute to premature component wear, necessitating thorough inspection and component-level repair.
Technical specifications
The Allen-Bradley 1746-P2 is an SLC 500 modular power supply that accepts a wide range of AC input voltages and provides both 5V and 24V DC outputs. It includes overcurrent protection, inrush current limiting, and isolation. It supplies user power at 200mA. It's designed for use in a 1746 chassis, occupies the leftmost slot, and features a front panel with terminals, voltage selection jumpers, and a fuse. The power supply protects against undervoltage and overcurrent conditions, with different series models exhibiting varying shutdown behaviors. Proper wiring practices, including ensuring power is off and considering an isolation transformer, are recommended.
Our Repair Process for the
1746-P2
Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1746-P2 power supply begins with a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation to pinpoint the root cause of the failure, which commonly involves capacitor degradation, blown fuses, or shorted diodes. The repair proceeds with the replacement of all faulty electrolytic capacitors and rectifying any diode failures. Technicians address thermal stress on internal components to ensure stable DC voltage output. We conduct a thorough inspection for overcurrent events and excessive heat, followed by component-level repairs to restore the power supply to optimal operational condition, ensuring proper PLC operation.
