Product Description
The Allen-Bradley 1746-P5 is an SLC 500 power supply, measuring 145 x 74 x 140 mm, that accepts a 90-146V DC input (125V DC nominal) with a maximum 20A inrush current and 85W real power. It provides 5A at 5V DC and 0.96A at 24V DC internally, and 200mA at 18-30V DC user power. The 1746-P5 offers 1800V AC RMS isolation for 1 second and a CPU hold-up time of 20ms (full load) to 3000ms (no load). It operates between 0-60C (derating current capacity by 5% above 55C) and 5-95% non-condensing relative humidity. Supporting one chassis, it features an LED indicator for operation monitoring and a non-replaceable fuse for short-circuit fire protection. Using a 1746 chassis with an open enclosure, the Series A model shuts down 24V DC user power during overcurrent conditions (requiring fault correction for recovery) while the CPU continues operation. In undercurrent conditions, the SLC 500 controller operates briefly before shutting down if the input voltage remains low or is cut off entirely.
Is Your Device Showing These Signs?
The Allen Bradley 1746-P5 power supply commonly experiences issues such as capacitor degradation leading to reduced output voltage and ripple, causing PLC malfunction. Troubleshooting includes verifying DC output voltage levels are within specified tolerances and checking for excessive heat or physical damage to components. Rectification involves replacing aged capacitors, addressing failed diodes, and ensuring proper heat sink functionality to restore stable power delivery to the SLC 500 chassis, preventing intermittent failures and system downtime.
