The Allen-Bradley 1756-ESMCAP is a capacitor-based energy storage module (ESM) for ControlLogix L7 and GuardLogix L7 controllers, replacing batteries. It saves programs to nonvolatile memory during power outages, clears programs from the controller's memory, and updates the controller's real-time clock. Operating at 5.1V DC with a 330mA current draw and 13.3W power dissipation, it installs in any ControlLogix chassis slot and tolerates 0-60C temperatures and 30g shocks. Designed for clean, dry industrial environments meeting Overvoltage Category II standards, it charges upon installation, indicated by status lights. Once installed, the 1756-ESMCAP cannot be removed or replaced, and power must not be removed until charging is complete to prevent program loss.
