Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1756-OA8D ControlLogix Output Module is an 8-point diagnostic module designed for installation in any slot of a 1756 ControlLogix chassis. It operates with backplane ratings of 175mA at 5.1V DC and 250mA at 24V DC, totaling 6.9W. The output voltage ranges from 74 to 132V AC at 47-63Hz, with ON/OFF and OFF/ON delay times of 9.3ms (50Hz) and 11ms (50Hz). The module draws 175mA at 5.1V and 250mA at 24V, dissipating 53W of power and 18.0 BTU/hr of heat. In the OFF state, it exhibits a 3mA leakage current per point and a maximum voltage drop of 3.0V at 1.0A. Each output point is rated for 1A at 30C, with linear derating at higher temperatures, and the total module current is 8A at 30C, also subject to linear derating. It handles a surge current of 8A for 43ms per point, recurring every 2s at 30C, with a minimum load of 10mA per output. Isolation is 125V continuous (1200V AC for 2s basic insulation) between output groups and the backplane, but not between individual group outputs. The single-slot module features user-configurable RTB keying (T4A code) and operates optimally between 0-60C (32-140F) at 5-95% non-condensing relative humidity, within an open-style enclosure, and weighs approximately 1Kg (2.25lb).

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1756-OA8D output module commonly experiences issues such as blown output fuses due to overcurrent conditions from connected field devices. Troubleshooting often reveals short circuits in the wiring or connected solenoids, requiring replacement of the faulty component and the fuse. Module failures can also stem from backplane communication errors, necessitating a check of the ControlLogix chassis and power supply. Corrupted I/O configuration data within the PLC program leads to improper module operation; verify the configuration parameters match the connected devices. Finally, observe for burned or damaged components on the module itself, indicating a need for repair or replacement.

Our Repair Process for the

1756-OA8D

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1756-OA8D output module begins with a thorough inspection for blown output fuses, which indicates potential overcurrent conditions. We then proceed to identify and rectify the root cause, such as short circuits in field wiring or faulty solenoids, replacing any defective components and the blown fuse. Next, we verify the ControlLogix chassis and power supply to eliminate backplane communication errors. The I/O configuration data within the PLC program is checked to ensure it aligns with the connected devices, correcting any discrepancies. Finally, the module undergoes a detailed examination for burned or damaged components, and repair or replacement is performed as needed to restore full functionality.
