Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1756-OA8E is a ControlLogix 120V AC digital output module with eight electronically fused channels. It operates between 74-132V AC at 47-63 Hz, with output delays of 9.3ms (60 Hz) and 11ms (50 Hz). Backplane current draw is 200mA @ 5.1V and 250mA @ 24V, totaling 7.02W. Power dissipation is 5.5W with a thermal dissipation of 18.76 BTU/hr. Each channel supports 2A @ 60C, with module derating to 8A @ 30C / 4A @ 60C. It features 3mA maximum leakage current, 4V maximum voltage drop, and requires 1756-TBNH or 1756-TBSH terminal blocks. Isolation is 125V (1200V AC test). It's CE and UL certified, T4 temperature coded, and operates from 0-60C (5-95% RH).

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1756-OA8E output module commonly experiences issues such as blown output fuses due to overcurrent conditions from inductive load switching or short circuits in field wiring. Technicians frequently address failed Triacs or other output components resulting in non-functional outputs, often caused by voltage transients or exceeding the module's current ratings. Backplane communication failures are also a concern, stemming from corrupted data packets or issues with the ControlLogix chassis, requiring firmware updates or backplane testing. Troubleshooting involves verifying field device wiring, inspecting for proper voltage levels, and confirming the module's configuration within the PLC program.

Technical specifications

  • The Allen-Bradley 1756-OA8E is a ControlLogix 120V AC digital output module with eight electronically fused channels. It operates within a specific voltage and frequency range, has defined output delays, and draws a certain amount of current from the backplane. It also has specified power and thermal dissipation values. Each channel can handle 2A at 60C, with module derating at different temperatures. The module has defined leakage current, voltage drop, and requires specific terminal blocks. It's isolated, certified, temperature coded, and operates within a defined temperature and humidity range.

Our Repair Process for the

1756-OA8E

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1756-OA8E output module begins with a thorough inspection of field device wiring and verification of proper voltage levels. Technicians then inspect the module for blown output fuses, failed Triacs, or other damaged output components. Suspected backplane communication failures are addressed through firmware updates and rigorous backplane testing within the ControlLogix chassis. The module's configuration within the PLC program is confirmed to ensure correct operation. Any identified component failures result in immediate replacement with new, qualified parts. The module undergoes comprehensive functional testing under simulated operating conditions to guarantee complete restoration of all output functionalities before it is returned.
