Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1771-AF PLC 5 Fiber Optic Converter Module enables interference-free transmission of DH+ and remote I/O signals over fiber-optic cables by converting Twinax electrical signals to light and back. This single-slot, chassis-based module, designed for the 1771 I/O chassis, consumes 600mA at 5V DC and dissipates 3W. In a point-to-point configuration, it supports distances up to 6500 ft with 100/140m fiber, 43,000 ft with a Twinax/fiber combination, or 10,000 ft with paired Twinax cables. It features a receiver sensitivity of -24dBm (1m, 100-140m fiber), an 820nm optical wavelength, and an SMA-905 connector. Optical transmitter power ranges from -21.0dBm to -5.6dBm (1m, various fiber sizes). It has a 1dBm connector loss guideline and a 17MHz minimum bandwidth. The operating temperature range is 0-60C (5-95% non-condensing humidity), with a storage range of -40-85C.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1771-AF power supply commonly experiences issues such as capacitor degradation leading to voltage instability and ripple, resulting in PLC malfunction. Rectifier diode failure causes complete power loss, preventing the PLC from operating. Overheating due to inadequate cooling or component aging induces premature failure and system downtime. Corrosion on the backplane connector pins disrupts communication and power delivery, causing intermittent errors. Fuse failures, often stemming from power surges or internal component shorts, halt operation.

Technical specifications

  • The Allen-Bradley 1771-AF Fiber Optic Converter Module allows PLC 5 systems to transmit DH+ and remote I/O signals over fiber optic cables, eliminating interference. It converts Twinax electrical signals to light and back, fitting into a single slot of a 1771 I/O chassis. It supports various distances depending on the cable type, has specific optical characteristics (wavelength, power, sensitivity), and operates within a defined temperature and humidity range.

Our Repair Process for the

1771-AF

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1771-AF power supply begins with a comprehensive evaluation to pinpoint the failure. This includes a thorough inspection for capacitor degradation, rectifier diode failure, overheating, corrosion on backplane connector pins, and fuse failures. Defective capacitors are replaced with high-quality, high-temperature rated components to ensure voltage stability and minimize ripple. Failed rectifier diodes are substituted with robust replacements to restore proper power conversion. Overheating issues are addressed by improving cooling mechanisms and replacing any heat-sensitive components. Corrosion is meticulously removed from backplane connector pins, ensuring reliable communication and power delivery. Blown fuses are replaced, and the root cause of the failure, such as power surges or internal shorts, is identified and rectified. Following component replacement and repair, the power supply undergoes rigorous testing under load to verify its performance and reliability before being returned.
