Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1771-NIV is a high-resolution, 16-bit analog input module with eight channels, compatible with +/-5V or +/-20mA (with resistor RTP) input signals, designed for use with PLC3 and PLC5 controllers and 1771-A1B, A2B, A3B, A3B1, A4B, 1771-AM1, and AM2 chassis; it features a 6-pole low-pass filter, data scaling to engineering units via BTW/BTR instructions, RUN/FLT and CAL/COM status indicators, high input impedance (>10 megaohms), 140V AC RMS overvoltage protection, and requires the RTP-4 for voltage inputs and RTP-3 for current inputs, while drawing 1.5A backplane current, dissipating 6.0W, operating between 0-60C (32-140F) at 5-95% non-condensing humidity, and not supporting hot-swapping or PLC2 processors.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1771-NIV analog input module commonly experiences issues such as signal drift, inaccurate readings due to calibration errors, and failures in the analog-to-digital converter (ADC). Technicians address problems stemming from backplane communication failures, often caused by corrosion or damaged pins on the connector. Input channel failures are resolved through component-level repairs, including replacement of operational amplifiers (op-amps) and precision resistors. Power supply issues within the module lead to erratic behavior and require troubleshooting the voltage regulators and capacitors. Environmental factors such as excessive heat or electrical noise induce performance degradation, necessitating proper shielding and cooling solutions.

Technical specifications

  • The Allen-Bradley 1771-NIV is a 16-bit, 8-channel analog input module for PLC3 and PLC5 controllers. It handles +/-5V or +/-20mA signals (with appropriate resistors), features a low-pass filter, data scaling, status indicators, high input impedance, and overvoltage protection. It requires specific resistor termination panels (RTPs) for voltage and current inputs, has defined power consumption and operating environment specifications, and is not hot-swappable or compatible with PLC2 processors.

Our Repair Process for the

1771-NIV

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1771-NIV analog input module begins with a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation to pinpoint the root cause of the malfunction, whether it be signal drift, calibration inaccuracies, ADC failure, or backplane communication issues. Technicians meticulously inspect the module for corrosion, connector damage, and component-level failures, specifically addressing operational amplifiers, precision resistors, voltage regulators, and capacitors. We resolve backplane communication failures by cleaning corroded contacts and repairing or replacing damaged pins. Input channel failures are rectified through component replacement and recalibration to ensure accurate readings. Power supply problems are addressed by troubleshooting and replacing faulty voltage regulators and capacitors. Finally, we implement shielding and cooling solutions to mitigate the impact of environmental factors, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
