Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1771-ODD is a PLC 5 Digital AC Output Module, an earlier version of the 1771-OD with identical specifications. This module, featuring isolated circuitry, controls the on/off state of AC-powered devices like solenoids and transformers based on PLC data table bits. It offers 16 image bits, supports , 1, and 2-slot addressing, and includes surge suppression. The Series A module has 16 isolated 120V AC outputs, operating between 85-138V AC with a 420mA backplane current load. Each output handles up to 2A, with a module maximum of 8A. Signal delays are up to 10.6ms, power dissipation is 14.2W (48.5 BTU/hr), and a 1771-WN wiring arm simplifies module replacement. It mounts in a 1771 I/O chassis with keyed connectors. The module features 32 front-panel indicators showing output status (left) and blown fuse conditions (right), along with optical coupling and filtering for noise reduction.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1771-ODD output module commonly experiences issues such as blown output fuses due to overcurrent conditions from connected field devices. Troubleshooting often reveals short circuits in the wiring or connected solenoids, motor starters, and other inductive loads. Failed output transistors are a frequent cause of module malfunction, requiring component-level repair or module replacement. Corrosion on the edge connector pins causes communication failures with the PLC backplane, necessitating cleaning or backplane repair. Resolve these issues through proper fuse selection, thorough wiring inspections, load testing, and regular maintenance of the I/O rack environment.

Technical specifications

  • The Allen-Bradley 1771-ODD is a PLC 5 Digital AC Output Module (functionally identical to the 1771-OD) that controls AC-powered devices. It features 16 isolated outputs, supports various addressing schemes, and includes surge suppression. Key specs include 120V AC outputs, a 2A output current limit (8A module total), and front-panel indicators for output status and blown fuses. It's designed for use in a 1771 I/O chassis and includes features for noise reduction and easy wiring.

Our Repair Process for the

1771-ODD

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1771-ODD output module begins with a comprehensive inspection for blown output fuses, which indicates potential overcurrent conditions. Technicians then perform a detailed wiring inspection to identify short circuits in field devices, solenoids, motor starters, and other connected inductive loads. Output transistors are tested to determine if component-level repair or module replacement is required. Edge connector pins are meticulously cleaned to eliminate corrosion that causes communication failures with the PLC backplane; backplane repairs are executed if necessary. Proper fuse selection is verified, and load testing is conducted to ensure connected devices operate within specified parameters. Regular maintenance of the I/O rack environment is performed to prevent future issues.
