Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1771-OW is a relay output module with eight individually configurable channels, arranged in four groups of two, each with a dedicated common. Each channel can be set as normally open (N.O.) or normally closed (N.C.), defaulting to N.O. It's designed for resistive loads due to the absence of surge protection. The outputs are electrically isolated from the module's logic and can all be activated simultaneously, each handling up to 1.0 Ampere continuous current with a power factor of 1.0 for AC loads. Switching characteristics include a 5ms operate/release time, 1ms bounce time, and 10 Hz switching frequency. Wiring requires a maximum of 14 AWG stranded wire with 3/64" insulation, and interconnect cables should not exceed 1000 ft (304.8 meters). Powered via the backplane, it draws 700mA and dissipates 3.3-3.7 Watts (11.3-12.6 BTU/hr). Operating temperature is 0-60C, storage is -40 to 85C, and humidity should be 5-95% non-condensing. Each output supports 24-138V AC (resistive) or 24-125V DC, with a maximum continuous current of 0.25A at 120V AC/DC or 1A at 30V AC/DC (30W). Keying bands can be used to restrict I/O slots to the 1771-OW, which can be inserted in any slot except the leftmost.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1771-OW output module commonly experiences failures due to blown output fuses, resulting in a loss of signal to field devices. Technicians should inspect and replace any blown fuses with the correct amperage rating. Corrosion on the edge connector pins causes communication errors with the PLC backplane; cleaning the connector with appropriate electronic cleaner resolves this. Overloaded outputs damage the internal switching components, necessitating module replacement or repair. Improper wiring connections lead to short circuits and module malfunction; verify wiring diagrams and correct any miswires. Finally, component degradation due to age and thermal stress causes intermittent or complete module failure, requiring component-level repair or full module replacement.

Technical specifications

  • The Allen-Bradley 1771-OW is an 8-channel relay output module designed for resistive loads. Each channel is configurable as N.O. or N.C., grouped in pairs with individual commons, and electrically isolated. It supports up to 1A continuous current per channel for AC loads, with specific voltage and current limits for both AC and DC. It has defined switching characteristics and wiring requirements. Powered via the backplane, it has specific power consumption and dissipation values. It operates within defined temperature and humidity ranges and can be keyed to specific I/O slots, excluding the leftmost.

Our Repair Process for the

1771-OW

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1771-OW output module begins with a thorough inspection for blown output fuses, which are immediately replaced with fuses of the correct amperage. Technicians then meticulously clean the edge connector pins to eliminate corrosion-induced communication errors. In cases of suspected overloaded outputs, the module undergoes comprehensive testing to determine if internal switching components are damaged, leading to either component-level repair or full module replacement. Wiring connections are rigorously verified against approved diagrams, and any miswires are corrected to prevent short circuits and module malfunction. Finally, modules exhibiting component degradation due to age or thermal stress are subject to in-depth component-level repair, or complete module replacement if necessary, to restore full operational functionality.
