Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1771-WS weigh scale module, part of the 1771 series, reads data from up to eight industrial load cells (with an external power supply). It receives calibration values from a data table and block-transfers them to a PLC-5 processor. Operating on a 5V DC power supply, it has a 40V DC backplane input voltage and a 1.50 Amp backplane current load at 1000V DC. It functions in temperatures from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and humidity levels of 0 to 90% (non-condensing). Due to its sensitivity to electrostatic discharge, proper grounding procedures are essential during handling. The front panel features two bi-color (red/green) indicator lights displaying Run/Fault and Calibrate/Communication status.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1771-WS I/O wiring arm frequently experiences issues such as corrosion on the terminal block, leading to intermittent or failed connections. Technicians address this by cleaning or replacing the terminal block and ensuring proper wire terminations to mitigate signal degradation. Backplane connector pin damage is another common problem, causing communication failures between the I/O module and the PLC rack. This necessitates connector repair or replacement, along with careful inspection of the backplane. Over-tightening of terminal screws results in stripped threads and inadequate wire clamping force. Replacement of the wiring arm is required to ensure secure and reliable connections.

Technical specifications

  • The Allen-Bradley 1771-WS weigh scale module interfaces with up to eight load cells, receives calibration data from a data table, and transfers it to a PLC-5 processor. It requires a 5V DC power supply and operates within specific temperature and humidity ranges. Proper grounding is crucial due to its sensitivity to electrostatic discharge. The module's status is indicated by two bi-color lights on the front panel.
