Product Description
The Allen-Bradley 1786-RPA is a ControlNet Modular Repeater Adapter used to extend ControlNet network distances beyond 1000 meters and create various network topologies (Star, Ring, Linear, Point-to-Point). It also facilitates media conversion between coaxial cable and fiber optic. Compatible with several 1786-RP series repeater modules (RPCD, RPFS, RPFM, RPFRL, RPFRXL), up to 20 1786-RPA adapters can be connected in series. The module supports panel or DIN rail mounting (panel offers better vibration resistance), horizontal or vertical orientation, and requires an 18-36VDC external power supply. It includes a removable terminal block, a 75-ohm terminating resistor, and DIN rail locks. The 1786-RPA provides 1.6A of backplane output current at 5VDC and offers Ready/Fault status indicators. Measuring approximately 4x4x3 inches and weighing 7 ounces, this Series B adapter (model 1786-RPA/B) extends network length, converts media, powers repeater modules, and enables diverse topologies.
Is Your Device Showing These Signs?
The Allen Bradley 1786-RPA commonly experiences issues such as corrupted firmware requiring reflashing via BootP or DHCP. Communication failures on the Data Highway Plus (DH+) network segment are addressed through verifying proper termination, cable integrity, and node addressing. Power supply degradation leads to intermittent operation; replace the unit if voltage levels are unstable. Backplane connector corrosion causes connectivity problems; clean or replace the connector. Configuration errors within RSLogix 5 or RSLinx result in network conflicts; validate the node configuration.

Our Repair Process for the
1786-RPA
Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 1786-RPA begins with a comprehensive diagnostic assessment to pinpoint the failure. Firmware corruption necessitates reflashing via BootP or DHCP. Data Highway Plus (DH+) communication failures are resolved through verification of proper termination, cable integrity checks, and validation of node addressing. Power supply degradation requires immediate replacement of the unit if unstable voltage levels are detected. Backplane connector corrosion is addressed by cleaning or replacing the connector to ensure proper connectivity. Configuration errors within RSLogix 5 or RSLinx are corrected by validating the node configuration to eliminate network conflicts.
