Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1791-16AC is a complete Discrete I/O block designed for Remote I/O architectures. It features 16 discrete input channels (79-132VAC, 47-63 Hz, with input delays of 1.0ms On and 26ms Off) and 16 discrete output channels (20-132VAC, in two groups of 8, with output delays of 1.0ms On and 8.3ms/10.0ms Off at 60/50Hz). Functioning as a Remote I/O adapter, it connects to the controller via a Remote I/O scanner interface in a daisy-chain topology. It supports various input devices like switches and sensors, and output devices like lamps, relays, and solenoids. The module can be mounted horizontally or vertically, with a maximum power dissipation of 22.76W and thermal dissipation of 77.6 BTU/Hr. Isolation voltage ratings are 500VAC (Power Supply to RIO), 1250VAC (I/O group to I/O group), and 1250VAC (I/O group to Logic). Output current ratings vary based on mounting orientation: vertical mounting allows for 300mA at 60C and 600mA at 30C, while horizontal mounting allows for 150mA at 60C and 300mA at 30C; ensure connected devices are within these current limits.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 1791-16AC I/O block commonly experiences failures related to corroded or damaged terminal blocks, resulting in intermittent or complete loss of signal integrity. Troubleshooting includes inspecting wiring connections for proper termination and addressing issues such as loose wiring or insulation displacement. Internal component degradation, specifically electrolytic capacitor failure within the power supply circuitry, causes operational instability. Replacement of the affected components or complete unit replacement restores functionality. Communication errors on the DeviceNet network stem from faulty transceivers or corrupted firmware, necessitating firmware upgrades or hardware replacement.
