Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 2098-DSD-005-SE is an Ultra 3000 Servo Drive designed for a range of motion control and industrial applications, from simple to complex motion profiles. As an Allen-Bradley Digital Servo Drive (DSD) and part of the Kinetix motion control system, it interfaces servo motor feedback signals to implement configured motion and position control. The drive features an integrated Serial Realtime Communication System (SERCOS) interface port for direct communication with SERCOS-enabled devices over fiber optic connections, specifically compatible with the 1756-MxxSE ControlLogix SERCOS module and the 1784-PM16SE SoftLogix SERCOS communication card.

The 2098-DSD-005-SE operates with an input supply voltage of 100-240 Volts AC rms, 1-phase, at an input frequency of 47-63 Hertz. It generates an output current of 2.5 Amperes (continuous) and 7.5 Amperes (intermittent). The drive's continuous output power is 0.25 Kilowatts at 115 Volts AC input and 0.5 Kilowatts at 230 Volts AC input, with an energy absorption capability of 93 Joules at 115 Volts AC input and 38 Joules at 230 Volts AC input. The drive has a bus overvoltage rating of 400 Volts DC and a bus capacitance of 1410 μF. Its circuit is protected by Class CC (FNQ-R-6) and Class J (LPJ-6SP) 230V AC Bussmann fuses, and it supports serial communication via the RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 port. The 2098-DSD-005-SE also interfaces with a SERCOS interface motion control network via a Fibre-optic SERCOS ring, supporting 01-99 node addresses and selectable baud rates of 4 and 8 Mbit. It accepts motor feedback through Incremental, Sine/Cosine, Intelligent, and Absolute encoders with 100 kHz (Sine/Cosine Input) and 2.5 MHz (TTL Input) per channel input frequencies, and uses A quad B, Step/Direction, and CW/CCW input modes for Auxiliary feedback.

The 2098-DSD-005-SE has an operating temperature range of 0 to 55°C (32 to 131°F) at a relative humidity of 5-95% (non-condensing) and a storage temperature range of -40 to 70°C (-40 to 158°F). It can withstand an operational shock of 15G and a vibration of 2.5G at 10-200Hz without derating. It functions without derating at an installation height of 1500m. The drive weighs approximately 1.8kg and has dimensions of 98.1mm x 32.77mm x 65.02mm. It is installed to the enclosure sub-panel via mounting holes and must be mounted vertically with a minimum clearance of 50.8 millimeters (2.0 inches) on the top and bottom, and 12.7 millimeters (0.5 inches) on the sides. The bottom clearance may need to be increased to accommodate cable bending radii.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 2098-DSD-005-SE servo drive commonly experiences issues such as resolver feedback faults stemming from wiring degradation or resolver malfunction. Power stage failures due to overvoltage or excessive current draw are frequent. Communication errors arise from corrupted firmware or network configuration problems on the EtherNet/IP interface. Inconsistent motor performance results from incorrect drive parameter settings or damaged motor windings. Overheating issues are attributed to inadequate cooling or excessive load demands, leading to thermal shutdowns.

Our Repair Process for the

2098-DSD-005-SE

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 2098-DSD-005-SE servo drive begins with a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation to pinpoint the root cause of the reported issue, focusing on common faults such as resolver feedback faults, power stage failures, communication errors, inconsistent motor performance, and overheating issues. We meticulously inspect wiring, test resolver functionality, analyze power stage components, verify firmware integrity, and assess network configurations. Drive parameters are scrutinized and corrected as needed, and motor windings are thoroughly examined for damage. Cooling systems are evaluated to ensure adequate heat dissipation, and load demands are analyzed to prevent future thermal shutdowns. Following diagnosis, faulty components are replaced with genuine parts, firmware is updated or re-flashed, and configurations are reset to factory defaults or customer-specified settings. Post-repair, the drive undergoes rigorous testing under simulated operating conditions to guarantee optimal performance and reliability before it is returned.
