Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 20D-RES-A1 resolver feedback encoder enhances PowerFlex 700S drive performance through its compact size, improved sensorless motor control (with 20% fewer parameters), simplified configuration for faster startup, and enhanced position control with independent feedback selection and absolute device support. It's a Phase II encoder incompatible with Phase I options (requiring a new feedback board for Phase I support). The 20D-RES-A1 provides powerful performance, flexible control via high-performance Logix, embedded Logix control for better programmability, auxiliary function control, and efficient programming, startup, and diagnostics through HMI programmability, with 256 KB standard user memory expandable to 768 KB.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley 20D-RES-A1 PowerFlex 700 series drive commonly experiences issues related to failed electrolytic capacitors within the DC bus, resulting in DC bus undervoltage faults and drive trips. IGBT failures are frequent due to overcurrent events or thermal stress, necessitating replacement. Encoder feedback problems arise from damaged encoder cables or faulty encoder modules, causing speed regulation errors. Communication faults on the Ethernet/IP network stem from corrupted firmware or network configuration issues, requiring firmware upgrades or parameter resets. Overheating is a concern due to clogged heatsinks or malfunctioning cooling fans, leading to thermal overloads and reduced drive lifespan.

Technical specifications

  • The Allen-Bradley 20D-RES-A1 resolver feedback encoder boosts PowerFlex 700S drive performance with its small size, better sensorless motor control (fewer parameters), easier setup, and improved position control. It's a Phase II encoder, incompatible with Phase I without a new feedback board. It offers powerful performance, flexible Logix control, enhanced programmability, auxiliary function control, and efficient programming/diagnostics via HMI, with expandable user memory.

Our Repair Process for the

20D-RES-A1

Our repair process for the Allen Bradley 20D-RES-A1 PowerFlex 700 series drive begins with a comprehensive evaluation to pinpoint the root cause of the failure. Suspect electrolytic capacitors within the DC bus are tested and replaced if found to be out of specification. IGBTs are thoroughly inspected and replaced when exhibiting signs of damage or failure. Encoder feedback systems are assessed, and damaged cables are replaced, along with faulty encoder modules. Communication faults on the Ethernet/IP network are addressed through firmware upgrades and parameter resets. The cooling system is meticulously examined, and clogged heatsinks are cleaned, along with the replacement of malfunctioning cooling fans. Following component replacement, the drive undergoes rigorous testing under load conditions to ensure optimal performance and reliability, and all parameters are reset to factory settings.
