Product Description
The ProSoft Technology MVI46-GEC, licensed from Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, is a generic ASCII Ethernet module that allows Allen-Bradley SLC processors (5/02 M0.M1 or later) to communicate with ASCII devices over TCP/IP. It features five client/server connections, installs in a single slot of an Allen-Bradley 1748 backplane (local/extended I/O racks only), and uses ladder logic for data transfer. The module draws 800mA at 5V DC from the backplane and operates between 0-60C (storage: -40-85C). It withstands 30g operational/50g non-operational shock and 5g vibration (10-150Hz). Status LEDs display module, backplane, Ethernet, serial, and error conditions. Configuration and debugging are performed via an RS-232 CFG port (RJ-45). Each server and client monitors connection status, IP/port addresses, and error/message parameters.
Is Your Device Showing These Signs?
The Allen Bradley MVI46-GEC module commonly experiences communication failures due to incorrect configuration parameters within the PLC program or the module itself. Firmware corruption during upgrades or power fluctuations causes operational errors, requiring a firmware re-flash. Backplane connectivity issues, such as bent pins or corrosion, prevent proper data transfer. Improper grounding introduces noise, disrupting communication and causing erratic behavior. Ensure proper termination resistors are installed on the GEC network to mitigate signal reflections and maintain network stability.
Technical specifications
The ProSoft Technology MVI46-GEC is an ASCII Ethernet module that enables Allen-Bradley SLC processors to communicate with ASCII devices over TCP/IP. It's licensed from Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, fits in a single SLC processor slot, uses ladder logic for data transfer, and has five client/server connections. It's powered by the backplane, operates within a specific temperature range, and is designed to withstand shock and vibration. Status LEDs provide diagnostic information, and configuration/debugging are done via an RS-232 port. Each client/server connection monitors its status and related parameters.
Our Repair Process for the
MVI46-GEC
Our repair process for the Allen Bradley MVI46-GEC module begins with a thorough diagnostic evaluation to pinpoint the root cause of the failure, focusing on communication issues, firmware integrity, and hardware connectivity. We meticulously examine PLC program configurations and module parameters to rectify any discrepancies. If firmware corruption is detected, a complete firmware re-flash is performed using validated firmware versions. Backplane connections are inspected for damage or corrosion, with necessary repairs or replacements executed to ensure proper data transfer. Grounding is verified and corrected to eliminate noise interference. Proper termination resistors are installed and tested on the GEC network to guarantee signal integrity and network stability.
