Product Description

The Allen-Bradley MV146-MCM, a Modbus Master/Slave Network Interface Module from ProSoft Technology (an Allen-Bradley Encompass Partner), allows SLC 5/02 (M0/M1 or later) processors to interface with Modbus devices. This single-slot module installs directly into a 1746 backplane (local or extension, but not remote I/O) and uses ladder logic for data transfer. It features one RJ45 debug/configuration port (RS-232, with included DB-9M cable) and two RJ45 RS-232/422/485 application combo ports. Status LEDs indicate module, backplane, application, and serial activity/errors. It supports a 5000-word register size for data exchange and is suitable for applications like data concentration, pipelines, food processing, mining, pulp & paper, and SCADA. Configuration is done via a downloaded text file. Power is supplied by the backplane (800mA @ 5.1VDC). The module is temperature-sensitive (32-140F operating, -40-185F storage) and withstands 30G operational/50G non-operational shock.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley MVI46-MCM module commonly experiences issues related to communication failures stemming from incorrect configuration parameters within the PLC program or the module itself. Resolve these by verifying the Modbus master/slave settings, baud rate, parity, and stop bits to ensure they match the connected device. Address data corruption by inspecting the Modbus register mapping and data types for accuracy, and confirm proper grounding and shielding to mitigate electrical noise interference. Firmware upgrades are necessary to resolve known bugs and improve overall module stability.
