Product Description

The Allen Bradley PLC-5-80 (1785-L80B) is a core component of PLC-5 control systems, integrating local, extended, and remote I/O modules via various communication interfaces. It features four configurable ports (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B) that can function as remote I/O scanners, remote I/O adapters, or DH+ communication interfaces for programming, monitoring, and peer-to-peer communication. Channel 0, an optically isolated RS232C port with ASCII and DF1 protocol support, is also present. DH+ cable length is rate-dependent, ranging from 3048m at 57.6 kbps to 762m at 230.4 kbps, requiring consistent rates across all devices. The front panel includes indicators for battery (BATT), processor mode (PROC), I/O force status (FORCE), channel 0 communication (COMM), and individual channel (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B) status.

Is Your Device Showing These Signs?

The Allen Bradley PLC-5/80 commonly experiences issues such as processor faults stemming from memory corruption or power supply degradation, requiring memory module replacement or power supply repair. Communication failures on the DH+ network are addressed through cable inspections, node configuration verification, and potential network interface card replacement. Program corruption due to power fluctuations or improper shutdowns necessitates memory clearing and program reloading from a verified backup. I/O module failures are resolved by diagnosing the specific module fault, replacing the faulty module, and reconfiguring the I/O tree within the PLC program. Backplane issues, including corrosion or damaged connectors, demand backplane cleaning, connector repair, or complete backplane replacement to ensure reliable module communication.
